Viewing opportunities exist throughout the Yukon, from in town sightings to incredible wilderness encounters. Road travellers can find plenty of opportunities to spot bears, moose, elk, bison, and sheep while driving our network of highways.

Our wilderness parks and areas provide an excellent setting to enjoy moose and caribou or experience the antics of our smaller creatures like marmots, pikas, porcupines and red foxes. Please treat all wildlife with respect and do not approach or harass them.

Wildlife viewing tips

Keep these tips in minds to make the most of your wildlife viewing opportunities.

  • Take your time and be quiet. Plan on stopping often, and slowly scan the landscape for movement.
  • Wildlife are more active in early morning and evening. Take a short walk before breakfast or after dinner
  • Keep your distance and use binoculars, spotting scopes, and telephoto lenses to get a closer look.
