At the turn of the 20
th century stampeders looking for gold and other minerals explored the area that would become Keno City. By the 1920s, Keno was a busy silver mining town. Although it is within the traditional territory of the
First Nation of the Na-Cho Nyak Dun, Keno has never been settled by the First Nations of the area. The Na-Cho Nyäk Dun settled in present day Mayo. Today, with the mines closed, Keno City is home to a small population of artists and miners.
