How to embrace the darkness like a Yukoner
Yukoners absolutely love it when the nights turn 18 hours long. What better excuse to relax, rejuvenate, and finally take all the time we want just for ourselves. At this time of year you can sleep in until 10am, and still get up before sunrise. Or put your jammies on at 4pm – 100% guilt free.
Don’t go to sleep just yet!
There’s also plenty of action going on in the dark! How about a night spent chasing the northern lights with your camera in search of the perfect shot? Or sinking into a steamy hot tub under a star-filled sky? Or celebrating music, film, and culture at one of our winter festivals?
And since you'll be well rested...
Our short days are long on excitement. Why not get your blood pumping and keep those cheeks rosy by strapping on a pair of snowshoes and exploring one of the many trails. Or experience the thrill of mushing your own dog team over the sparkling snow.
If outdoor pursuits aren't your thing, then why not take part in the local cafe culture and enjoy a freshly roasted cup 'o joe. Or if you're into history, check out one of the museums and learn about Yukon's famous Klondike Gold Rush, the Alaska Highway or even the last ice age! After days like these, you'll need an extra long night.
We’re only 2 ½ hours away!
Now that you know what Yukoners do in the dark (and during the day), why not come join us? We’re just a short 2 ½-hour flight away from Vancouver and Kelowna. And we’ve put together loads of ideas for ways you can make the most of the longest night of your life. Check out our winter packages here, or download your Vacation Planner today for more information.
