Ross River Dena

The area where the town of Faro is situated is within the traditional harvesting territory of the Ross River Dena. The area is well-known for its rich abundance of big game and wildlife. The present day town of Faro was largely built around the discovery and mining of lead/zinc ore in the early 50s and by the mid 70s was in full swing as the largest lead/zinc mines in Canada. Although the First Nations have never settled here permanently they have contributed to Faro’s progress since its mining beginnings.

The Ross River Dena Council has worked with the town of Faro on several projects such as mine lands repatriation and co-management of the Dena Cho Trail.
