TIA Yukon welcomes Doug Lansky, author of There's No Toilet Paper on the Road Less Traveled
Yukon tourism business owners, operators and industry leaders will be welcoming a fascinating guest speaker at the 2012 TIA Yukon Spring Conference and AGM, April 27th-28th.
This year’s conference will feature Doug Lansky as its keynote speaker. In addition to being a travel expert, Doug is an accomplished journalist, a host for Discovery and Travel and the author of the Rough Guide’s bestseller First Time: Around the World and There's No Toilet Paper on the Road Less Traveled.
After working the copying machine at Late Night with David Letterman, Spy Magazine, and The New Yorker during college, Doug rejected life as a professional intern and hit the road. After two and a half years working his way around the planet - picking bananas in Israel, snowmobile guiding in the Alps, selling carpets in Morocco, and hitching on yachts - a car accident in Thailand brought Doug home. Six months later, Doug was back on the road, but this time with a nationally syndicated travel column that grew to reach over 10 million readers in 40 major newspapers, including: The San Francisco Chronicle, The Globe and Mail, The Daily Telegraph, Toronto Star, The Seattle Times, and many more. His material has appeared on CNN, in Maxim Magazine, in National Geographic’s Adventure, on Discovery and Travel and more.
“Travel marketing is an important component of our industry,” says Neil Hartling, Chair of Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon. “Doug will have some great insights on marketing successes and mistakes, helping our members see travel in a new light. Hearing about his experiences as a professional globetrotter first-hand will be both intriguing and educational.”
In addition to networking opportunities, 2012 TIA Yukon Spring Conference will host the Yukon Tourism Awards of Excellence Gala in Whitehorse on April 27th, Annual General Meeting in Haines Junction on April 28th, as well as interactive sessions and panels that will help operators make their businesses more efficient and profitable.
