WHITEHORSE—Yukon band Speed Control will headline Yukon Day cultural celebrations at the Western Canada Summer Games taking place in Kamloops, B.C.
Incorporated into their summer British Columbia tour, and with support from the Yukon government’s Department of Tourism and Culture and the Western Canada Summer Games Host Society, band members Graeme Peters, Jody Peters and Spencer Cole were chosen to perform on August 9 as part of the cultural festivities around the games.
The games are held every four years and hosted in different jurisdictions in Western Canada on a rotating basis. This year, Yukon is sending 140 Team Yukon members to the games, which will be held August 5 to 14.
“Having the opportunity to perform on a national stage such as this is a tremendous honour,” Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor said. “We congratulate them, along with Team Yukon’s athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff who are representing the territory at this exciting event.”
As Yukon's Rock Ambassadors, members of Speed Control have been performing and teaching rock camps throughout Yukon, B.C. and Alberta.
“We are extremely excited for this opportunity to represent the Yukon and rock the Western Canada Summer Games,” Bassist Jody Peters said. “We'll do the Yukon proud, promise!"
