Tourist Artist Fund supports new scope of touring opportunities.

WHITEHORSE—Five Yukon artists will share $27,900 through the Touring Artist Fund to present their work at national and international venues.

“Support to Yukon artists through the Touring Artist Fund is proving to be very successful,” Tourism and Culture Minister Elaine Taylor said. “Whether it’s across Canada and the United States, or to Europe and China, touring opportunities such as these are opening up exciting avenues to new audiences and new prospects for talented Yukon artists. The Yukon government believes in working together with artists in this way to help strengthen their professional portfolios and develop a bigger profile for Yukon, both nationally and globally.”

Blues ensemble Ryan McNally, George McConkey, Bruce Bergman and Rob Bergman received $10,000 to perform at the Nanjing International Jazz and World Music Festival in China. McNally and his group are the fourth Yukon group to travel to Nanjing, China for the festival, which is held each October.

"We are extremely honoured to receive this support from the Yukon government,” McNally said. “Attendance at the festival has been aided by a strong relationship developed by Yukon musicians and festival organizers. Previous performers paved the way and helped to build a reputation for Yukon as a musical hub in Canada for diverse musical professionalism and world class talent.”

Applications for the Touring Artist Fund are accepted four times per year. The next intake deadline is September 15. Applications and guidelines are available at Tourism and Culture's Arts Funding and Awards website.
