Otelina Sanchez was born and raised in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. She moved to the Yukon in 1976. After a long career with Northwestel, in 1996 she decided to open her own business. Sanchez Mexican Deli was established as a small shop, offering Mexican arts & crafts, canned products and food to go.
Over the years, Otelina’s business blossomed and became a family-oriented restaurant, now called Sanchez Cantina. A terraza was built, a dining room was added and this allowed Otelina to share a wider variety of dishes that she was raised with in Southern Mexico. In addition, members of Otelina’s family have immigrated to the Yukon and joined her and her children Hector and Megan to make this a true family-run restaurant.
