As the snow melts in the spring, different flecks of white take over the skies. Thousands of swans converge upon the Yukon's M’Clintock Bay, Tagish, Johnson’s Crossing and Kluane Lake for their annual migration. The majestic Trumpeter Swan along with many other species of waterbirds are drawn to the open waters on their way north. These specific places offer safety and feature shallow water for an easy to reach supply of aquatic plants.
Celebration of Swans
This massive convergence of swans and waterfowl makes for a great show, culminating during the Celebrations of Swans event. This birding festival held the third week of April features a family activity weekend, birding tours, bird identification and photography workshops, art exhibits, school programs, story-telling, contests and much more.

Swan Haven Interpretive Centre
The centre hosting the event is nestled on the banks of the M’Clintock Bay, providing incredible views of the grazing birds. Staff interpreters on site provide detailed instruction on how to view and identify waterfowl. The centre itself offers a treasure trove of special activities and interpretive displays for all ages. Notably the walls of the centre are filled with the artistic creations of swans from the perspective of Yukon children.
The Swan Haven Interpretive Centre is open April 1-30th, 2008 with interpreters on site weekdays between 5pm and 9pm.
