Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre

The Klondike Gold Rush brought many a miner and fortune-seeker to the Yukon. Not long after the first miners arrived, stories of giant beasts unearthed during the quest for gold began to spread. To this day, with the help of local miners and First Nations, more treasures of the Yukon’s distant past are being recovered every year. These remains and artifacts tell a story of a world quite unlike the Yukon you see today.

With its fascinating natural and human history, there’s ample opportunity for visitors to learn about the stories that thread our history together. Yukon attractions present themes including Yukon’s first peoples, the North-West Mounted Police, Klondike Gold Rush, mining development, and the construction of the Alaska Highway. You’ll also find impressive cultural attractions, nature centres and recreation facilities.

In Whitehorse be sure to visit MacBride, Old Log Church and Yukon Transportation museums. Most Yukon communities host a museum or interpretive centre, and there’s no better way to learn about our communities and the people who live there. Don’t miss Binet House in Mayo, George Johnston Museum in Teslin and the Dawson City Museum.

Cultural Centres

Over the past decade Yukon First Nations have experienced a cultural revival with the opening of many new cultural facilities. Take the time to visit First Nations cultural centres in Teslin, Whitehorse, Haines Junction, Carmacks, Pelly Crossing, Dawson City and Old Crow.

Interpretive Centres

Yukon’s dramatic and abundant landscape has many stories to tell. Check out nature and regional interpretive centres in Faro (Campbell Region Centre), Watson Lake (Northern Lights Centre), Tombstone Territorial Park, Kluane National Park, and the Beringia Interpretive Centre and Yukon Wildlife Preserve in Whitehorse.

Historic Sites

With literally hundreds of historic sites across the territory, Yukon’s past and present come alive as you tour around. Visit our must-see Yukon attractions including S.S. Klondike, Dredge No. 4, Fort Selkirk and the complex of National Historic Sites in historic Dawson City.

Visitor Centres

    Banner Photos:

We provide athletics and private dog-sledding tours. With a maximum of two participants at a time, we ensure exclusive experiences.

You drive your own dog team on bush trails meandering the boreal forest. You may have to push (run) uphill and keep your balance downhill while braking with one of your feet. This is not for the arm-chair musher travellers but more for the adventure spirited persons.

We believe in engaging dog-sledding experiences that are built on trust and respect between Musher and Dog. Be aware dog-mushing is addictive!

Yukon Heritage

A legacy of significant history

The Yukon may be famous for its gold rush history and diverse First Nations cultures, but there are countless stories that weave the tapestry of our heritage.

Mammoths to Mounties

Woolly mammoths and scimitar cats once roamed this region known as Beringia. Transportation was crucial to the growth of contemporary Yukon: the White Pass & Yukon Route railway, aviation, and the construction of the Alaska Highway. The story of the Canadian Mountie is rooted in the Yukon, and the territory also has a lesser known but just as colourful silver mining history.

Colourful northern characters

The most authentic, memorable part of Yukon’s heritage isn’t found in a museum. You’re sure to come across an array of fascinating, larger-than-life personalities and colourful characters.
