Wondering about Canadian currency exchange rates or how to tip on your Yukon vacation? Here are some helpful tips and tools to help:

Banking and Currency

Canada's five major banks have branches in Yukon's capital, Whitehorse, where you'll also find a Western Union. Most banks offer 24-hour automated teller services and some also maintain branches in other Yukon communities.

Exchange Rates

Many Yukon businesses participate in the Fair Exchange Program, a Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon initiative to ensure visitors receive fair value for their US funds. The exchange rate is calculated weekly by the Fair Exchange Program. To get the best deal, be sure to shop at Fair Exchange Businesses.

GST Tax Refunds and Purchases

Non-residents of Canada can obtain a refund on the national Goods and Services Tax (GST) for eligible goods. Remember you will need the original receipt. For more information please read the Tax Refund for Visitors to Canada brochure. There is no territorial sales tax in the Yukon.

Tipping Protcol

Service is rarely included in hotel and restaurant bills with typical tipping ranging from 15 to 20 per cent of the total bill.
