Cathers Wilderness Adventures is a two-generation family business offering year-round wilderness experiences.
In winter, we welcome guests for dog sledding. In summer, we offer cabin-based stays (with guided day activities) at our wilderness home on Lake Laberge, as well as camping trips: hiking and backpacking supported by pack dogs, and canoe or boat camping along the historic Yukon River.
Located 30 miles (50 km) north of Whitehorse, there is no road to our shore of the lake. Access to our home and cabins is by dog team or snow machine in winter and by boat or canoe in summer. Our trips focus on small groups or individuals and are personally guided by our family. Our experience includes 30 years living year-round in this spectacular location, guiding since the mid-1970’s, and thousands of miles of travel in the Yukon wilderness - camping, guiding, sled dog racing, and hauling supplies to our home.
Visit three generations of the Millar family at their working placer goldmine. Your friendly guide will take you right onto the mine site to learn how gold is deposited by nature and extracted by man.
Tour the original Goldbottom Roadhouse and discover what other treasures frozen in time are sometimes uncovered. Gain insights into the day-to-day life of a modern miner and hear of fortunes made and failures endured. Learn how raw gold is concentrated, cleaned and worked with, and then experience the thrill of panning for your own gold from the very same pay dirt that is being sluiced.
The miners' main camp is located at the picturesque convergence of Hunker and Goldbottom Creeks, 25 kilometers from Dawson City. Tours depart twice daily, May to September, from Front Street, and can be customized for special groups upon request.
