The Yukon Quest is a 1,000 mile dog sled race that happens each year between Whitehorse, Yukon and Fairbanks, Alaska. This incredible event takes place in February when weather conditions can be the coldest and most unpredictable. Between 25 to 30 mushers sign up for the race from around the world, each with a team of 14 canine athletes to take them to the finish line.
The Yukon Quest starts on schedule regardless of weather and lasts 10 to 15 days until the final dog team arrives at the finish line. The race has taken place each year since 1984 over rough, sometimes hazardous terrain.
Whitehorse will host a number of events during the 2016 Finish Week from Saturday Feb 13th to the 20th, including free mushing rides, Questfest, Meet the Mushers and our famous Finish & Awards Banquet. Not to mention the exciting chance to see mushers cross the finish line!
